introductory mingle: FLOWER FESTIVAL
what: Introductory Log and Flower Festival Celebration
when: April 2nd - April 15th
where: In several different locations in the downtown area of the Inhabited City.
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

In the days leading up to April 2nd, residents new and old may notice advertising around the city, everywhere from digital screens to paper flyers pasted on blank walls, all advertising an upcoming holiday: The Flower Festival. Celebrating springtime, beauty, joy, and togetherness, the festival heavily features floral themes and dancing. The advertising mentions that on April 10th, a paid holiday, there will be a Blossom Picnic, as well as lists of various public dances at clubs or other open venues, and adult raves.

The Flower Festival's main event is the Blossom Picnic on April 10th, but it also features traditions of sharing food and drink, and dancing that span over the course of the whole two weeks. There are a large variety of events going on throughout the city, from dancing lessons in any wide variety of traditional dances, to old-fashioned sock hops, to adult raves complete with mild party drugs. Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own event at any point during the festival, and if your character creates an event and hosts it in a top-level, you can submit that thread for extra bonus points.
i. blossom picnic
The main event that kicks off the second week of the Flower Festival is the Blossom Picnic on April 10th. A relaxed and low-key event, it draws several thousand people every year to the spacious Riverview Central Park, where there is a generous lawn lined with various blossoming trees, and families, found families, lovers, and groups of friends are encouraged to lay out a picnic blanket and share food. There will be live bands playing (but not loudly enough to distract from conversation and peacefully watching the petals flutter in the wind), a variety of demonstrations of traditional cultural dances from many different realities and planets, and a ton of ice cream vendors. This is an excellent festival not only for celebrating togetherness with the people who are already important, but for mingling and making new friends.
Characters may either pack their own lunches or they can purchase pre-packed Blossom Festival lunches. Stores and street markets are carrying a wide variety of specialty food that is only available at this time of year - predominantly pastries, an assortment of types of candies, and ice cream treats all in various floral flavors, as well as a sort of ambrosia salad based around a sweet rose-flavored cream and a native fruit that is bright green and tastes like a combination of peach and citrus.
ii. dancing lessons
Starting on April 2nd, there will be dancing lessons offered almost everywhere you look! From partner dances to group dances to line dances; sexy and sensual or innocent and childlike - almost any type of dance you can imagine is represented, from any reality or planet that has people in Riverview Quarantine.
Additionally, the Riverview Central Community Center has multiple rooms blocked off so anyone who knows a dance from home can teach it to others in their community - sharing is caring, after all. Characters are welcome to block off one of these rooms and offer lessons in any dance they happen to know from home (and these sorts of thread starters would be eligible for the mingle AC Point bonus)!
iii. flower festival dancing
This is pretty simply what it says on the tin - in almost every club, community center, or other public space, there will be dancing at almost all hours of the day or night, formal and informal. Musicians bring out their instruments and play in the street for demonstrations of cultural dances and music at the same time as clubs are offering VIP cover charges for exclusive dances, and you can find anything in between.
There are also many low-cover-charge raves that allow under-18s so younger characters can stay up all night and dance like crazy. The legal drinking age in Riverview Quarantine is 14, and so anyone over 14 can enter and indulge in a few drinks, dancing, and playing tag with a non-intoxicating version of the colored powder featured at the adult raves. There is copious amounts of security on site to ensure that everyone is safe, as well as nurses and off-duty police officers to offer advice or care for anyone who overindulges out of lack of experience.
Grab a partner, a group of friends, or just cruise and mingle the various dancing events.
Characters may also notice that most of the street markets and clothing shops are offering clothing that features floral patterns, flowers as accessories, and that show a lot of skin - for men, women, and anyone in between!
iv. adult raves
Advertised on flyers and digital screens around the city, made to pop as if they were under blacklight, is a series of adult raves that are happening in various large empty warehouse spaces around the city, including one that is listed as the danger rave and hosted in an abandoned factory outside the inhabited city walls. With bouncers at the door to ensure that anyone entering is 18+, the raves are comfortably adult in nature. Clothing is optional, showing skin is encouraged, and there are a lot of neatly tucked away spaces for attendees to get some time alone with one or more than one person, as well as spaces intended for orgies. The atmosphere is sex-positive and non-judgemental, open to any orientation or preference, with various forms of protection available for free, however, to ensure that everyone plays safe there are sober security teams out en masse at all premises to oversee the events.
(CW: DRUG USE) In each location, there is one specific room where attendees can enter, and dance or play tag with brightly colored powder that contains small amounts of a legal party drug commonly available in Riverview, which is absorbed through the skin. Not much more intoxicating than having a few beers, the effects of the drug are a pleasant low-key buzzing euphoria, positive sensitivity to touch, a heightening of desires for intimacy, and a mild lowering of inhibitions. Once a character has been hit with the powder, the color lingers on the skin so other attendees can know who has partaken, but once the powder makes contact with a surface it deactivates, meaning that partakers can safely dance with non-partakers without sharing the intoxicating effects.
Please be sure to warn in subject lines for any threads involving drug use. And remember, there is always security to intervene and make sure everyone is safe.
v. roommates or wildcard
Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set at the Flower Festival, feel free to write it up!

What for, he couldn't even tell. But it was that rushed feeling that had him slowing down, tugging at Bones's hand so he stopped walking too, and he moved so he was standing in front of him. He didn't let go of his hand, but his other one moved up to settle on Bones's arm, and he tipped his head a little and offered the doctor a small smile.
"You know this isn't some kind of limited time offer, right?" Not that Jim minded either way, but it felt a little like they were rushing into things a little too fast. Which was saying a lot, coming from him. "Are you... sure about this?"
no subject
Especially after saying something like that. It was oddly sweet and damn it if Jim didn't hit just the right kind of worries and concerns that twisted something in his chest in that good kind of pain when someone made you damn happy. Lifting his free hand, he slid his fingers over Jim's cheek before pressing his palm to the soft skin as a smile pulled at his lips. "Darlin'... you never cease to surprise me."
Leaning in closer, he touched their foreheads together with a warm low chuckle. "You're the only thing in my life I've ever been sure of... that likely sounds strange, I know. But it's true. And right now, the main thing I want?" He paused and met Jim's eyes, "Is to kiss you. Can I do that?"
no subject
"You're so full of praise, tonight," Jim hummed. It was strange, but nice. Jim didn't know if it was the rave, the drinks or something else entirely, but he wasn't about to question it. Despite the slight chill in the air, he felt his face warm a little at Bones's request, his head ducking a little as he smiled lopsidedly, stepping closer.
"Never ask if you can kiss me," he murmured with a lilt to the tone, his hand moving up from Bones's arm to curl around the back of his neck, staying there as he tipped his head and leaned in to kiss him.
no subject
But then, little slips added into positive reactions, and he really didn't feel like he had as much to fear as he thought he had. Not that he wanted to put any labels on any of this right now. And honestly, he was getting tangled up in the rush of adrenaline and a rapidly beating heart. Especially when Jim was that close and saying something like that.
The doctor started to comment, but any words he might've said dissipated into thin air as those lips touched his. And it really was somethin'. Like a spreading of warmth that tingled through his nerves and pooled in his stomach as he could do no less than press into it more. Running his thumb along Jim's jaw, he deepened the kiss. Those fingers drifted slowly to the back of Jim's neck and slipped up into the soft blonde hair and tangled in it.
no subject
But that issue was nowhere in his field of vision right now, which had gotten remarkably narrow until he could notice little more than just Bones. Worked just fine for him— for now, anyway. He liked the flirting, the warmth and the closeness, the feel of something exciting and new for them to explore, and he was in no rush to set his feet back down on the ground. They could figure this all out later, anyway.
Parting his lips slowly, he canted his head and slotted his mouth against Bones's, humming softly as he let the doctor deepen the kiss at his own pace. His hand let go of Bones's to smooth up his side, curling into the fabric of his shirt, the other dropping to his shoulder and holding on tightly there.
no subject
And honestly, the moment Jim released his hand and those lips parted, Leonard moved closer. Sliding his hand around to the small of Jim's back, he tugged him close enough that he pressed up against him fully, no longer worried about pressing into his space or doing something wrong. Instead he licked into his mouth, taking his time to just taste Jim and commit everything to memory.
Because god, this felt damn amazin' and he wanted to remember all of it. Softly nipping at his lower lip, he pulled back slowly until their lips just barely touched. Taking a deep breath, he slipped his fingers through Jim's hair and curled his fingers about the shell of his ear before he cupped the other's jaw. "I don't care about speed, Jim... all I know is I would follow you anywhere." Utmost trust and adoration filled those words and mirrored in darkened hazel eyes.
Smoothing his thumb over his cheek, the doctor smiled just a little at him. "And I don't think our roommates would appreciate watching how two grown men try to fit on a single bed." Regardless if they had sex, he rather slip into bed with Jim if he wanted it as well. And well, he didn't have sleeping in mind regardless. A slow smile pulled at the corner of his lips as he trailed his hand a little lower on Jim's back to press him closer. "Does that no need for askin' permission extend to kissin' you in more places than just the lips?"
What? It was a question meant more out of flirtation than seriousness anyhow.
no subject
His hands settled on Bones's waist both, curling into the fabric, finally rounding his sides and resting at his back. He felt a little lightheaded when the kiss broke, but with a few slow breaths he managed to steady himself somewhat, blinking his eyes open and looking into Bones's.
"I know you would," he answered with a warm smile. Figuratively and literally, and in more ways than just one, now. It wasn't something he was either expecting or aiming for, but that only made it the more exciting.
"We can always push the beds together?" It was said with a hint of amusement, as evidently he meant it as a joke. That would only be weird and probably awkward to everyone else in that room, even if they did nothing more besides sleep, so it was by no means a viable solution.
He raised an eyebrow at the question, lips stretching and quirking into a crooked smile, his head pulling back a little so he was looking properly at Bones's face. "Mm, depends on where we are, but yes, assume the prerogative stands."
no subject
"But I still think they won't appreciate it." He pointed that out airily as he pressed into the hollow of his neck. He really shouldn't be taking such privileges, but really, it was hard not to when Jim was standing that close and all he wanted to do was just touch him. And maybe that included touching him with his lips as well. Leonard just knew right now? Right now he didn't want to over think it.
"I promise not to be indecent if that's what you mean." Snorting just a little, he wanted to point out that was likely more Jim's thing than his own, but he rather just slip closer to his ear nip the lobe. "So I guess if you want me to be indecent, we'll need somewhere else to go."
no subject
Up until now it hadn't been much of a problem. But after tonight, whether or not they ended up going to a hotel somewhere, it would be the weirdest thing to just each go back to their own beds as if nothing had happened. Jim, for one, definitely didn't want that. He had a feeling the doctor felt the same way.
Letting out a soft gasp of surprise, he curled his fingers into the fabric of Bones's shirt, tipping his head a little as his mouth trailed down his neck. "I was gonna say... you're not being very decent right now," he pointed out in a low tone, taking a slow breath and closing his eyes. He let a shiver course through him, from head to toe, then he pulled his hands away, urging Bones to step back so he could take hold of one of his hands. "Come on. Let's find a place."
no subject
That thought sent a thrill through him. A wonderful electric feeling tingling through his nerves as he trailed his fingers up the line of Jim's spine slowly. It wasn't just the idea of having someone, it was who he had. It almost felt a little too unreal to even acknowledge out loud.
Biting smartly into the sensitive skin just behind Jim's ear, he smiled against the skin before letting go. "What I'm doin' is decent on a scale of this to the crap they were doin' in that rave." He smirked just a little and let Jim pull away. Sliding his hands into Jim's, he moved with the pull. "Did you want to do anything else before we find a place? Not that I'm complainin' if you want to go straight to a room."
Not at all, actually. Not when he wanted desperately to pick up where he left off making work of his neck and any other skin he could bare.
no subject
He let out a low purr as Bones bit into the skin, keeping back a shiver as he put barely a foot's distance between himself and the doctor. "Yes, but that rave is happening within closed walls," Jim pointed out. They, however, were very much out in the open, and while it was pretty late into the night, there were still a few people out on the street.
Catching one of Bones's hands, he threaded their fingers together, then slowly started down the street. He wasn't too familiar with the city yet, but he figured they could just walk until they found a nice enough place to spend the night. "Mm, not really. You know I didn't exactly plan tonight to go this way, so it's not like I have an itinerary in mind."
no subject
Squeezing his hand lightly, he fell into step beside him. Turning his head at that comment, he stayed silent for a moment. Biting at his lower lip, he stared on ahead again. No, tonight really hadn't been planned. It just happened. Leonard followed Jim as per usual and ended up talkin' before his mind could catch up to his mouth. He just hoped that it was for the best.
"Definitely wasn't planned." The doctor said the words softly, almost thoughtfully before offering in a quiet tone. "But I'm... not upset with how it happened." On the contrary, he'd felt a flare of excitement and relief and god help him, happiness. Sometimes he didn't think he had a right to feel that damn happy.
Which was likely why he was worried Jim might regret it later. Or if he really wanted to be juvenile, he would wake up tomorrow back on the Enterprise and none of this ever happened.
no subject
The night air was cool, the light breeze helping clear his mind a little. Jim glanced at Bones when he spoke up again, offering him a warm, soft smile as he tugged him close and lightly bumped their shoulders together.
"I know you're not." He knew if Bones was bothered by any of this, then he would've said something. And they might've had that drink a little too fast, but it hadn't been nearly enough alcohol to get them drunk enough to do something they'd regret. Jim, for one, felt himself sobering up quickly by now, so he knew for sure it wasn't the drink making these choices for him. "I'm not, either. Not even one bit."
no subject
Sometimes even he worried about how ridiculously sentimental he could get.
But then, there had been a time in his life when he thought he'd never feel happy again. And Jim... Jim made sure to prove him wrong when he became his best friend. Not even mentioning how happy this moment was making him. "Good to hear that, Jim."
As much as he could and did drink in his life, he knew damn well he hadn't been nearly drunk enough to say he'd not meant the things he'd done and said. And he'd meant them. "Hope you know where we're goin', cause I'd rather not drift about aimlessly when we could be doing something more hands on." Okay, maybe it was lame, but it got the job done for gettin' his point across.
no subject
And Jim was determined to make tonight memorable in all the best ways.
Bones's remark drew a chuckle from him, and he ducked his head his head, fingers squeezing the doctor's hand a little tighter. "Keep talking like that and I'm gonna drag you into the first alley we come across. And I really would rather find something a little nicer than that."
Just kidding, he wasn't really going to do that. It was cute seeing how impatient Bones could get about this, though.
no subject
Lifting his head, he gazed at the buildings and shops trying to make heads or tails out of the signs they passed. Jim might just be right about that impatience thing. He'd really never had to deal with that before. Things always just moved at a pace he didn't mind when it came to courtship and the like. Granted, the person he was walkin' with meant a helluva a lot to him.
And it suddenly struck him that he'd known Jim longer than he'd been married and longer than he'd been in his daughter's life. The thought of Joanna was a sobering one, but not enough to dampen the thought that no, it wasn't wrong to feel a little excited and maybe a bit like a teenager over this. Over Jim. Even if he still didn't dare spell it out for himself just as he hadn't for the past eight years.
"You know, I don't say it quite clearly enough." His thumb slipped over the side of Jim's hand as he kept his straight ahead. The doctor didn't know how to articulate it, just that he needed to. He truly needed to. At least for himself. "Your one of the best things that ever happened to me." If anything, he likely would have washed up and bled out if they'd not met. Instead Jim pushed him to move forward and test his boundaries and be something better.
no subject
He wouldn't expect Bones to be anything other than himself, even now. Especially now. Wherever they ended up going from here, and whatever they ended up doing, Jim wouldn't want them to get along any differently, and he both hoped and expected Bones to be his usual self around him. Well, except now he could just kiss the doctor into silence when he started grousing and ranting about all the things that could potentially kill them. Always nice to have a new trick up his sleeve.
The thought had him smiling vaguely to himself, his gaze flickering up to Bones when he spoke again. The statement was a little out of the blue, but not particularly shocking, and his smile turned softer and warmer as he drifted closer to Bones. "Likewise, doc," he said as he leaned in and planted a kiss to Bones's cheek, lingering only for as long as he could, considering they were both walking down the street. Honestly, he didn't even know nor want to think about where he'd be right now if not for Bones. Dead, most likely. Or definitely, come to think of it. The thought had him slowing down a little, both hands catching Bones's. "I'd be dead if not for you. So— thank you. A little belatedly, I think."
He figured he never really needed to say it, that Bones would just know how grateful he was. But sometimes people still needed to hear these things, even when they knew them, so.
His eyes moved back to the buildings, catching a sign some good distance down the street. The discreetly lit letters red 'HOTEL', and he pointed at it, ignoring the way his stomach flipped a little nervously. "There. Doesn't look so bad, does it?"
no subject
A quiet snort was given as he drew the other man closer and leaned over his shoulder to kiss just behind his ear. "Brat." The word held no heat, just a low key affection to his tone as he leaned away and kept moving forward. He started to comment that they could get food or something till their luck in finding a place changed, but then Jim's voice broke through his thoughts. Turning his head to look at Jim, a brow rose inquisitively as he listened.
And that just... brought up a lot of memories. Everything as far back as the day he'd pulled Jim onto that shuttle to go to the Enterprise to the moment he'd pulled the cover open to Jim's lifeless form. The memory sat there like a chunk of ice in the pit of his stomach forcing him to look away. Leonard wasn't stupid. He knew damn well that Jim wouldn't be alive. And even assuming that Leonard pulled some semblance of a life together and got assigned to the Enterprise even without Jim, earth would be gone. So would Jim Kirk.
Those sorts of thoughts were sobering. He might've just lost himself in that feeling if it hadn't been for the feeling of Jim's hands holding his. Stopping, he turned a half step to look at Jim with a furrowed brow as those words sank in. Angling his head a little, it hurt to even consider the things they'd been through and how many times he recalled standing back and just watchin' everyone else. He didn't save Jim for the thanks. He never had. He saved him and pulled him on the Enterprise that day cause he knew damn well his life was damn empty without him.
Didn't mean he didn't want to know Jim knew what he did for him. Even if Jim never thanked him, he just... And even now that he was gettin' that? Leonard wasn't all that sure what to do with himself as he bit into his lip. So he did the only thing he could given the circumstances. "I would do anything to keep you alive." Break his oath, face his fears and risk removal from Starfleet. He'd done it all already. "Thanks..."
The word came out awkwardly because 'you're welcome' sounded wrong in his head and honestly? All he wanted was to just have that acknowledged and nothing else. Which was why it was so relieving to have his eyes drawn away to look at the sign Jim indicated. And god if that didn't make his heart flutter in his chest at the implications of that moment held. "Looks just fine to me." Squeezing Jim's hand, he smiled just a little. "Shall we?"
no subject
Well, not that it needed a lot of patience. The more they walked, the likelier they were to find a place, and while Jim was a little picky on what they settled with, he wasn't so picky that it'd take them that long. Granted, the idea of grabbing a bite wouldn't have been entirely unwelcome, but Jim wasn't all that sure he'd be able to focus on food right now.
So it was a good thing they came across that small hotel first— for more reasons than just one, though Jim wasn't aware of that. He could feel a hint of tension in the silent pause before he spoke, the way it almost bled out of Bones when he thanked him, but he didn't focus on it, nor did he think to question it. Bones had a way of bottling things up that... well, actually, it was a little like Jim. Except Jim often opened up about those things with Bones for the most part, while the doctor had some misconception that he shouldn't burden Jim with the issues plaguing his mind.
But that was a talk for another day. Or for later, at the very least. He smiled brightly as Bones squeezed his hand, lifting them both up so he could kiss the back of Bones's fingers, then he picked up pace now they had their destination in sight, quick to step in through the door and lead the way to the front desk.
no subject
And that was why it was easier for him to brush aside the more serious and darker thoughts that threatened to drag down his mood. Right now, there was no room for that sort of nonsense.
His gaze softened at the way Jim pressed a kiss to his fingers and a small smile pulled at the corners of his lips. It made him want to move closer and push Jim up against the wall to kiss him senseless. He started to say something, but instead he was pulled through the door and toward the desk. As Jim said something to the clerk, he leaned in and slipped one hand softly over the small of Jim's back before curling his fingers around his hip.
Where he didn't lean against Jim's back, he definitely dared to stand close. "Want me to pay or you got this?" Either didn't matter. He knew he'd end up returning the favor in some way in the future.
no subject
It didn't really help much when Bones moved closer and slipped his hand around the small of his back, and he sucked in a soft breath as fingers curled around his hip. He glanced over, shifting closer himself, shooting the doctor a small smile as he fished out his phone. "I got it." Not like Jim saw it as a favor, anyway. But Bones was more than welcome to pay it back in some way.
Once he got them a room, he took the keycard, then led the way to the lifts. He tried not to look like an overeager teenager, but it was hard to miss just how much he wanted them to finally be alone. Chances were he wasn't going to last the whole lift ride, especially considering how slow these were in comparison to the turbolifts they were used to.
no subject
Or mark it. That... sounded more enticing right about now.
And where Jim considered being patient till they got into the room, the doctor was long at the end of his rope. As soon as the doors closed on the lift, he pressed Jim against the back wall and leaned into him. Both hands slid up to cup his face before leaning down to press his lips into Jim's. The first kiss was soft and sweet, his thumbs gently sweeping along the line of Jim's jaw.
"I'm a few seconds away from kissin' you like I mean and and only a few seconds more than that from being 'indecent' darlin'." Smiling just a little, he ghosted his lips against Jim's. "Can't be held responsible for what I do to you in a minute."
cw: sex (probably should not forget that warning whoops)
Lips curled into a smile almost instantly at the words, and he licked at his lips, biting on the lower one. "Can't be held responsible for what I do to you either," he hummed. That was all the warning Bones got before Jim turned them around and pushed Bones up against the wall instead, canting his head as he slotted their mouths together in a deep kiss.
His tongue swept past Bones's lips as soon as they parted, wasting no time to taste his mouth. His hands slid down Bones's sides, catching his hips and pulling them close, as he used his own to trap the doctor between the wall and his own body, a knee slotting between his legs.
Re: cw: sex
Only to get more dizzying as he felt Jim's lips on his. Both hands cupped Jim's face as he returned that kiss, lips parting to give Jim that access to deepen it further. The sudden press of hips against his own, pinning him to the wall, earned a sound of surprise that melted into a moan. A shiver raced up his spine when eh felt that knee pressing between his legs and instantly shifted his legs apart for him.
The feeling felt thick and hot now that no space could be found between them, and Leonard couldn't help the low sound that got lost in Jim's mouth. A warm haze settled in his head as he pressed into that kiss, nipping and sucking on Jim's tongue. He'd imagined this before. How it would feel or taste or even how much it would affect him. Reality far surpassed those limited figments of his imagination in that Jim felt so all consuming, the doctor knew he would be eaten up by all of it.
The mix of emotions on top of pure desire likely only made everything about his best friend ten times more intense. And he was fine with that. No, more than fine. Curling his arms around his shoulders, Leonard lightly rolled his hips up into Jim's with a low sound in his throat from the heat of friction between them.
no subject
Fingers curled into the fabric of Bones's shirt, and without thought he tugged it up, sliding his hands underneath it so he was smoothing them up the bare skin of his sides. His own hips pressed back against Bones's, pinning him harder against the wall, a soft moan interrupted by the soft ping of the elevator coming to a stop on their floor.
Jim let out a noise of complaint at the interruption, but knowing the ultimate destination did help a little. He pulled away suddenly and without much thought, catching Bones's hand and dragging him off the lift and down the corridor towards their bedroom. In a fit of impatience he ended up struggling with the keycard for a brief while, muttering a 'shit' somewhere in there until finally he got the door open.
Letting out a relieved breath, he grinned at Bones, tugging him inside and closing the door behind them, the card and his phone quickly discarded on the nearest table as he closed the distance between them again.
