[closed] [mission log]
who: Bucky Barnes [616], Steve Rogers [616], Steve Rogers [MCU], Michael Scofield, Stephen Strange, Loki, Sam Wilson, and Yuri Plisetsky. Feat. Tony Stark as remote consultant.
what: Mission: Healing Spring
when: Forward-dated to the week of April 23rd-29th
where: Out in the wilds beyond the wall
warnings: Possible (definite) violence/monster attacks. Will update.
[ooc: Headers below for each 'stage' of the mission. This is going down mingle-style fast and loose. If you don't want threadjacks in a particular thread, just say so in your header, else it's all fair game. It might get chaotic, so if/when anything major happens I'll summarize up here.]

- Much bickering is to be had.
- Sam has cool wings.
- Michael puked out a window.
- Steve needs laser safety classes.
- ROCK LOBSTER- I mean, golems.
- Michael and Sam actually find the place.
CAMPING CAMPING
And then there's finding food. They want to get more than travel rations after all. He's glad to have any help he can get, although even through the hard work, everyone can see a certain energy about him. He's glad to be out on this mission. It feels like home.
Maybe a little too much like home, because suddenly he calls out:]
Heads up!
[And that would be a laser heading someone's way a bit too close for comfort.]
no subject
Bucky is leaving the circle of the campsite to go help Steve with whatever he's doing, shield on his back, though he thanks god he has good enough reflexes to duck that laser, rolling to the side.]
What the hell was that!
no subject
Just making sure we don't get tracked by more of the wildlife. There are some animals moving close to camp.
[Oh, and that might have been meant to spook something, but he doesn't actually say that to Bucky. Because it was a misfire.]
no subject
How close? Think we should go head them off at the pass?
no subject
[Steve says that quietly, watching the line of the jungle even though he knows they won't hear him.]
You and I should go tracking. I'll feel better if we scout around.
no subject
Yeah, let's go see what we're dealing with.
no subject
I knew I could count you in. Let's see if we can scare up our visitors.
[If they flush out some animals, most likely there won't be anything to worry about, but if it is something bigger, Steve worries that they're going to be ambushed in the night. He starts walking, heading out away from their camp toward the area he saw movement last.]
no subject
You know you can always count me in, partner. [He says with a little smile, hefting the shield. They might not be Cap and Bucky these days, but Steve will always be his partner in the ways that count.] Lead the way.
no subject
These tracks look...
[Almost like bird prints, the three-toed depressions show points of claws digging into the ground. But the weight is too heavy for a bird and the spread is longer than Steve's hand when he holds it up to the track.]
I think we've got trouble.
no subject
You know, they say birds are descended from dinosaurs. [He remarks, voice low but slightly casual at the same time. These are either giant chickens, or they're way off base and they're dinosaurs. He just wonders to what degree of aggressive they are.]
no subject
[Steve crouches low to the ground as they move through the brush. The prints were dry and worn, from what Steve could tell, they were old. Maybe that meant that they weren't going to encounter giant chickens. Or dinosaurs, since the shape of the marks definitely reminds him of some movies he's seen in passing. And some actual prints he's seen in person--but they still seem off for that. Not quite the same. Slender.
But whatever left the tracks had large claws. That much he knows. And, judging from what they've already encountered, it could very well be another type of lizard-person. A smaller, lighter figure than the ones they've already fought.]
If we run into a pack of tyrannosaurs I'm letting you be the distraction.
[Steve smirks over his shoulder at his partner. After all, Bucky is Captain America now. Its his job to charge in and make noise, right? While he looks, Steve makes sure to check the camp behind them.]
They probably smelled our food. Wouldn't want to fall asleep with predators sniffing around this close.
no subject
What, and take the distraction job away from you? That was always your favorite, pal. [There are some parts of the Cap job that still don't quite seem to fit him, like he's wearing someone else's shoes. Especially working alongside Steve again, he feels... less like Cap and more like Bucky.] We can go track the things down, but I hate to fuck with them any more than we already have. We're probably in their territory - these tracks are older.
no subject
He doesn't really listen to anyone else, but that hadn't seemed to have caused too many problems thus far. It wasn't like he was actively disruptive, either. Not like some people.
(Looking at you, Loki.)But still, any fifteen year old kid is liable to get tired after a few days in the jungle, all of them tough. Maybe even gruelling.
Yuri had one of his purple leopard print sneakers off, sitting on a log and rubbing the arch of his foot, trying to ease their throbbing. He was no stranger to pain, and so knew the ways to relieve it, at least a little. Later he would have blamed himself for taking this moment, seeing as it meant he hadn't been paying attention to his surroundings like he should have. He'd let his guard down, because he'd figured hey- they'd stopped for a little bit. Sure they weren't camping yet, but thus far nothing had really come up. He was just glad that it was a lesson he was able to learn from, and not something that had been more... final.
At the other's shout, Yuri leapt to his feet, hand snatching at his spear where it had been resting, shoe forgotten as he whirled, trying to discern what the reason for the alarm was- and then jerking backwards, throwing himself back over the log that had been his seat to get out of the way of the laser. The log sent him sprawling, landing hard on his back and shoulders his hands clutching tightly to his spear, hugging it to his chest. His head bounced off the ground, disorienting him momentarily. ]
Shit. [ He swore, hissing and sitting up, every muscle in him feeling tense as he tried to focus his vision enough to figure out of the laser was coming back; and to check that he still had all of his limbs. That he had avoided it. ] What the HELL!
no subject
Steve jogged up after firing off the shot that sent Yuri tumbling off of his log, looking down at the Russian sprawled on the ground.]
Are you okay?
[He asked the question as if he weren't the one that just startled him into that position.]
Better be on your guard.
[That part was said with more seriousness. Not because he had nearly hit Yuri, but because there was something else. Steve looked out to the woods beyond their camp and past Yuri, along the line he had fired.]
No sudden movements. Just get up slowly.
no subject
What? [ He snapped, but kept his voice low, throat tight as he did as he was told, making sure he kept his spear at the ready as he rolled first onto his knees, and then up onto the balls of his feet, slightly crouched. Ready. Or at least, he hoped. ]
no subject
Or as safe as anyone, really.]
Don't move.
[Steve crouched where he was, looking just beyond Yuri, and for a moment it didn't seem like anything would happen. Then the brush behind Yuri parted in a burst of fur and teeth, a large catlike creature snarling as it ran through, and Steve prepared to swing at it, but the predator ran past, not stopping to swipe at either human as it fled. Steve stood, frowning.]
I guess something bigger is out there.
no subject
He almost wished that it hadn't been so keen on running off, Yuri wanted a better look at it. It had been gorgeous. ]
Wow. [ He breathed, shaking his head and managing up onto his feet properly, relaxing- just a little. ]
I don't know if that's a relief or a bigger concern. [ Yuri muttered, dragging one of his hands through his hair. ]
no subject
Friend of yours?
[He couldn't help but ask that, seeing how Yuri apparently had an affinity big cats. After the Sampremi festival games, Steve had started thinking of Yuri as a small, angry tiger cub.]
Probably a concern. But it might be a sign we're getting closer to what we're looking for. If the spring is unnatural, maybe animals avoid it.
no subject
[ Yeah, someone really liked big cats.
As if that wasn't obvious enough from his purple leopard print sneakers, or the leopard print lining of his current jacket. Not even mentioning the giant tiger Steve had helped him bring home.]Could be. Something rare and mystical like that- if it exists, there has to be something to guard it, right? Make sure that not every idiot can stumble along and abuse it.
no subject
Probably. If it wasn't guarded, I think more people would be out here searching for it. But we still don't know if it really does anything.
