i — beach borg
[ Genji hasn't been to the beach proper in quite a long time. And between helping clear it out and trying to distract himself from the fact that his brother had vanished, it seemed like a good decision as any to head on down.
He's sitting under an umbrella, probably the most of his cybernetic prosthesis removed as he possibly can manage. His face is fully uncovered, as well as his neck (the extent of his jaw replacement is obvious now, jutting down into his throat) and his left shoulder and arm up to his elbow is noticeably still flesh. Scars are scattered on his still organic parts, and the cybernetic forearm and hand looks as if it was surgically added later instead of a result of his previous physical trauma. He's also got swim trunks and a black sleeveless shirt on, with three streaks of sunscreen on his cheeks reminiscent of a certain somebody.
Genji is taking the time to spray sunscreen on his still fleshy parts, because rubbing lotion when you've got metal and silicone hands and joints that can easily get gunked up his not enjoyable. Oh, he's also sitting in front of a curiously large and pink mecha of sorts.
If someone approaches him, he smiles. ] It is keeping an eye on me. [ A pause. ] And I am instructed to tell you 'Do Not Touch.'
ii — fireworks
[ Now fireworks are always fun! But only if you get a great view. And thankfully Genji has an uncanny ability to scale just about anything, so those pesky cliffs you might be thinking would be a great vantage point are no problem at all.
He easily climbs it, limbs lighting up green in the ever darkening sky, and reaches a metal hand down to you. ] Here, I will pull you up!
iii — date! (closed to shigeru)
[ Once the festivities for the time seem to have died down, he figures it's a good time to invite Shigeru out on his promised 'date.' It may have been a 'date' in the eyes of the auction, but Genji was just thinking of it as a reason to see someone he was starting to think of as a good friend.
Especially after that... interesting text conversation he'd had with that person. What did they say their name was, Dodger? Roger? Something? Hm. He definitely wants to bring it up... he worries that there might be people trying to take advantage of Shigeru's kind demeanor.
Genji decided to bring him to one of his favorite meditation spots, a beautiful serene place by the river. Just far enough from the main parts of the city that it wasn't loud, but not far enough to be dangerous. He's brought a little thermos of tea and some snacks and he figures they can just have a nice chat.
He gestures to it when they arrive. ] Is this all right?
ii — tea bros (closed to eichi)
[ Since seeing each other at the parade, Genji and Eichi had run into each other a few times to have tea at a local little cafe.
Genji is waiting for him at the table they have apparently claimed for their chats, but his expression is just slightly more melancholy than usual. He has come to the realization that his elder brother is absolutely gone, vanished without a word and a trace. Back through the portal, it seems.
Genji is... Genji doesn't quite know what to do or how to feel right then. But he doesn't plan on letting it sour his or his companion's mood. He smiles whenever Eichi approaches. ] Greetings.
i
That's right! Look, but don't touch please!
[ That said, she moved to peer down at Genji from her perch, pulling her heart-shaped sunglasses down to do so. ]
Did you forget to spread the sunscreen on your face? UV is really bad for your skin!

I'm just peachy! I don't think I've been to the beach like this in forever, though. I'm glad we came.
no subject
He wipes off the tips of his fingers on the hem of his shirt. ] I haven't in a long time myself. I used to get too much sand in my joints before I had this upgrade. [ He taps the green light on his shoulder. Also far too many open ports near his spine, in his early Blackwatch days. ] Is there anything you would like to do? Or is sunbathing enough for the moment?
no subject
She shifts a bit on her perch atop the mecha, propped on an elbow and resting her cheek against her hand as she looks down contemplatively. ]
I wanted to talk to you about something, actually. It's a super not-fun and not beach-related, but it's been bothering me.
no subject
And getting to know Hana has been a delight, honestly. Especially with the losses of McCree and his brother, it's been nice to have someone else from his world. (And yes, Genji is very much a dweeb.)
He puts down the sunscreen spray when she speaks and turns to her, raising a haggard looking brow. ] Of course. What's on your mind?
no subject
As for what's actually on her mind, though, she gives a sigh, and her free hand took to picking at a spot on the metal of her mech. Was that spot always there? ]
I'm guessing you already know that there's other people here from the same place as us, right? Except they all suck. We have to stick together, Genji.
no subject
[ He gets serious right after though, frown pulling at his face and brows knitting together. ] I think that is the most wise thing to do. I cannot trust that they will 'behave' themselves in this place, I feel it is just a matter of time before something is attempted.
[ A pause. Genji speaks a little quieter. ] Reaper has been here as long as I have. We have had... interactions. [ It's sufficiently vague while also implying there's a much bigger story behind it. ]
no subject
On that note... ]
What kind of interactions? He didn't call your body a piece of garbage, did he? Because that's what he called my mech.
[ Her free hand starts to rub at the pink armor plating, like she her mech was a living thing and doing that would have been a soothing gesture. ]
There's Sombra, too. And this blue-skinned woman I ran into who was... ugh.
no subject
[ There isn't any real reason he can think of not to tell her. They were both stuck here, after all, and apparently the only people from their world left who were not of any dubious morality. And Hana is a soldier as much as he was, which is a realization he's still sort of coming to terms with for himself. ] I know who Reaper is— was. We have... history.
[ It won't be hard to miss the slight sadness to his voice when he says it, like he's bittersweetly recalling his own memories. ]
no subject
What happened to him?
no subject
He was someone I had a lot of respect for, who taught me many things. [ Genji makes a face. ] And now he's wearing a skull mask and calling himself Reaper, while being a terrorist. He isn't the man I knew anymore.
[ Reyes always had a flair for the dramatic, but... ]
no subject
Sorry to hear that, Genji.
[ She falls silent for a moment, contemplative, and when she asks her next question she does so carefully and softly. ]
Do you think who he used to be is still in there somewhere?
no subject
He pauses at her question and looks at the horizon a moment, then down at the sand, then back to her. ] I'm not sure. I won't lie and say I don't hope he can come to his senses one day.
[ Genji, somewhere along the line, learned to become quite the optimist. He forgave his brother... if he understood why, he knew he could forgive Reyes too. ]
no subject
(... She'll still want to know at some point though. )
Though while she is sympathetic to Genji's feelings, her current dislike for the man known as 'Reaper' is a bit stronger. ]
Maybe. But even if he does, he's got a lot to make up for.
no subject
[ He was never a terrorist, but he was not a good person by any means in his youth. There were plenty of things he did that he regretted... and with Reyes now being Reaper, he's been starting to doubt some of the things he did in Blackwatch.
His master always says he has troubles with doubt.
Genji sighs and shakes his head then gestures to the waves and sky. ] It is too nice of a day to have these somber conversations, don't you think?
no subject
But, he's right. They're hanging out at the beach and it's wasting the opportunity for fun, to talk about Talon. ]
... Yeah. [ She gave a little chuckle. ] Besides, now that I have my mech, we can beat them easily in a fight.
[ Except that Reaper could do considerable damage to her mech and Sombra easily render it useless. But anyway— ]
I'm glad my mech made it over here.
no subject
He will, at some point. He thinks Hana will be someone he can confide it, when things are a little easier to talk about.
Genji laughs in return. ] It will definitely give us an advantage, that is for sure. I can help you maintain it if you need it, I've gotten pretty good with a screwdriver. [ For obvious reasons.
He crosses his arms and nods. ] It is amazing what can end up here. I received an old picture of my brother and I kept in my room back home. I was very surprised.
no subject
I found someone who can probably help out a lot! He said he's worked for superheroes and stuff before, so I think it'll be okay. And he's really nice! I have a good feeling about him.
[ With that, she slowly moves off of her mech, hopping back onto her feet in the sand with a little "hup!" and then making her way around the mech to grab another cold one from the cooler and sitting next to Genji as she flips the tab open. ]
Not to get greedy or anything, but they should totally send my rig over here, too. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of parts are around here and what's best for the kinds of games I can find.
[ After taking a swig of her drink, she sets it down in the sand, embedding it a little so it doesn't fall over, and then idly starts pushing at sand with her hands. ]
It's good that you got something to remember your brother by, though.
no subject
[ He reaches for a drink himself because why not? ] Well, stranger things have obviously happened. It might show up for you someday. [ He pulls back the tab on his drink with his index finger, as if there was absolutely no resistance to it. ] I actually haven't' really thought about what games they have here. Do you think you will stream at some point? [ He'd totally make an account and follow you on this world's version of Twitch and everything.
But his smile gets a little nostalgic as he turns to watch her start to play with the sand. ] I am glad to have it here, all things considered.
[ He puts down his drink and starts to write his name in kanji in the sand. ] Shall we try to build something?
no subject
[ Her answer is immediate, enthusiastic, and very much D.Va. She attracted a great many people to her streams at home and it had been due, in no small part, to her attitude. For a top pro turned soldier in the front lines of a war, she still managed to be so positive and though she certainly had people who thought she was being too much or going about it immaturely, she had many more who appreciated her hopefulness. And those are the people she fights the hardest for.
... Things aren't quite the same, here, but she'll do her best anyway.
She keeps pushing sand around with her hand as she watches Genji write in it. ]
What should we build? A big fortress? Or should we dig a giant hole?!
no subject
[ He never saw many of D.Va's streams, only when he was just barely able to get some sort of connection on his phone during his travels. Something about her attitude made him smile, made him not feel quite so alone. He's glad that they've become friends while they're stuck here.
He snickers a little. ] I think a fortress would be good. Or maybe a barrier around your mech?
no subject
[ She shift a little in her spot so that she's on her knees, feet tucked beneath her as she starts making a more concerted effort to pile up some sand. They don't have any tools with them that would make this any easier, but Hana doesn't really care. ]
What should be like? One with a tall tower? Or just go with the flow?
no subject
He starts to scoop up some himself to add to the pile. ] I think going with the flow would be easier. Start with a big base and build up?
[ He attempted a few sand castles in his youth. It was always very hard to recreate the Shimada estate with sand. ]
