( closed ) lost research
who: Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Peggy Carter, Re-L Mayer, Shai Ebbisaryn, Sans, Dick Grayson, Scott Lang, Yuuri Katsuki, Victor Nikiforov
what: a rescue mission
when: from May 15th through to the end of the month
where: abandoned area, along the river, the delta and the waterfalls; between the first and second walls
warnings: monster attacks, probably some injuries/blood, don't expect anything more than that; add any needed warnings on your own threads as needed, please!
Despite the risks, most of the journey was a fairly quiet one. A lot of hours walking, making their way along the riverside, trekking through the woods and across small clearings. When the sun set they'd set up camp somewhere, and as soon as it rose they got back to their feet and out towards the Delta underneath the waterfalls.
Jim made sure they had all they needed; maps, compasses, whatever devices that could help them navigate the terrain. As far as supplies went, they had plenty of covers and extra clothes to make sure they didn't suffer through the colder nights, but there were no luxuries out here. If it rained, they'd be mostly unprotected, and they could only shower and wash their clothes so long as they had the time and access to the stream of the river. There was plenty of food, hopefully enough to last them the round trip, but they also had a myriad of tools and weaponry needed for any hunting and scavenging so they didn't always have to consume from the food they'd brought along for the trip.
The creatures living out here were another concern, and on a journey this long, they were bound to run into something sooner or later. They should be packing enough weaponry to keep the team safe and everyone in one piece, though.
Hopefully, it would be worth it. Jim didn't even care if they didn't get their hands on any of that research— all he cared about was that there were people possibly lost and in danger out there, and he wanted to try and save them.
[ ooc: this is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own top levels and/or tag around as much as you like! ]

Re-L? [ He moves in cautiously, scanning the edges of the clearing for any sign of the threat. ]
Hey, are you hurt?

[ No matter how long she'd been out on her own, or dealt with these kinds of beasts appearing out of no where, sometimes they still managed to give her a bit of a spook. A medium sized monster had taken opportune cover in a thicket of tall water plants, and for a moment had escaped her inspection of the area.
At least until it hopped out at her, the initial shock sending her backward, stumbling slightly. She suspects the hand injury is from a swipe at her that she hadn't managed to avoid totally, though she's at least been fast enough to whip her gun around and give it a good head shot. ]
Not incredibly. [ Just enough to be annoying in sharp reeds and the rest - and she's somehow cut a cut across her palm that's bleeding fairly liberally. For the moment though she seems pretty content to just.. wipe it away and continue on. ]
I guess I inadvertently caught lunch, though..

[ He's teasing a little, mostly because he's relieved that his slow response hadn't actually cost her her life. He gives her room to gather herself back together, but his eyes stay on that hand. ]
How's your hand?

Well, Yuuri is trying to find ways to cook.. whatever these are.. [ She'd tried one of his attempts at cooking and well.. it hadn't been the worst. Sure she'd had better, but so long as she was never on a diet of purely beans arranged in different patterns again it was all alright. Mostly, she's still a little on edge, looking around them to make sure that they weren't just missing another one lying in wait but.. this time it seems they're in the all clear. There's a motion to dip her hand in the water to clean it, but she hesitates, thinks of everything that could possibly lurk in water, and instead reverts back to using her dark clothing to clean herself up instead, dabbing and pressing to see if the wound would stop. ]
It's fairly deep, and the placement is going to make it hard to heal.. [ She's annoyed, mostly, it what she's getting at. ] Not entirely sure if it'll need a visit to McCoy or not..

Luckily he hadn’t left every piece of the vigilante equipment behind when he’d signed up for this jaunt. He fumbles with the side pack he’s wearing and comes back with a neat, carefully sealed roll of gauze, wrapped for a first-aid kid. ]
Here. [ And he’ll offer it to her. ] I’m no Dr. McCoy, but we might want to staunch the bleeding for the walk back. [ Did you invite him R-el because he sure is intending to shadow you at least until they reach the camp again. The doctor can look her over when they get there.
In the meantime, the smell of the blood could draw more predators. ]

[ One of them serving as look out while she cleaned up wasn't the worst idea ever - but the more eyes on the plants around them the better. Re-L certainly doesn't begrudge him for getting distracted from her hand tending to go ahead and make sure everything is still alright around them. She figures she's probably a beacon for anything else that wanted to try and get a cheap kill, after all.
All that noise and now the smell of blood.
She looks up as she hears his say 'here' - looking at the roll of gauze for a moment before using her good hand to reach for it. There's a rather steady drip, at this point, so it'd be best to get it sealed up as soon as possible. ]
I don't want to be any more of a beacon for something out for a hunt than I already am.. [ At least this time there wasn't bits of bone or anything. That's a plus. ]
With the way he took care of my arm, before, I'm going to have to. Healing this any other way is going to be a bitch.

Ouch. There must be a story there. [ He feels a twinge of sympathy, actually, that apparently this isn't even the first time she's been hurt.
And because he also kind of knows firsthand the pain of trying to bind up an injury one-handed: ]
You know, if you need a hand, I can...
no subject
Well, for one, it wasn't here. [ She moves to open the packet of gauze, pressing it to the bottom of the injury and sort of... folding her hand over to keep it in place as she wraps. It works well enough - but it's clearly not a proper dressing. She'd have to have Bones take a look at it when they got back to camp but she's also... not in any particular rush it would seem. ]
I was on a ship, before I came here, and went on a mission.. didn't move fast enough to dodge a shot and ended up with a pretty... gory injury. On the Enterprise he was able to heal it totally right then and there, though...
[ His trailing offer isn't totally ignored at least, she offers her hand with a slight furrow of her brow. ]
I can't tie it.
no subject
...So, wow, you guys actually knew each other? [ These stories always fascinate him. He's been unknown, thus far, by everyone but Jason. ]
Awfully nice of the portal to strand you here as a twofer.

If I had one more hand I may be able to manage it, but until I gain that ability... [ She shrugs, the little sarcastic aside as much about covering herself for trying it on his own in the first place as it is trying to break the tension of the moment a little. With everything going on, and the mission, sh's never sure what's going to be a calamity and what may actually work out in everyone's favor at the end of the day. She'll make note of how easily he seems to be able to take care of tying the bandage, but otherwise doesn't seem too suspicious.
Being able to take care of small injuries is something she ought to learn a little more than she already been forced to learn, anyways, considering where she's going back to, one of these days.
You could say that. Before this place I was on a ship called the Eluvio - McCoy and Jim were there, too. They don't remember it, though. Maybe the ones I met were from different universes, but these two seem to be exactly the same people other than that.
I'm not so sure it was a packaged deal necessarily. But it was nice to see a familiar face or two. I knew Yuuri from before as well.

[ Whatever she says about it, he's thinking she must trust them all on a fairly significant level. Which isn't a bad way to operate. Dick had come to answer the call for help, to see where he could put his skills to use. Maybe a little to get a better sense of who among these people he could trust, in the future.
But he'd walked in blind. Without the expectation that he could rely on anyone here but himself, for things like this. He feels a little homesick, suddenly. ]
Still must be nice getting the band back together.
[ He finishes the knot and let's Re-L go. ]
How's that feel?
no subject
[ Despite knowing all the familiar faces around her, there's no doubt in her mind that her curiosity about the world outside of the Quarantine's walls was what had drawn her out. It certainly wasn't a love for camping, or the idea of learning how to live more roughly than she already had on the Rabbit with Vincent and Pino - if anything she could get used to shared housing faster than anything like that. However, knowing the people around her had made it easier to agree to go along. Who better to risk life and limb with than people she already knew instead of a group of absolute strangers, right?
She'd done that once before on Oros, and though she'd com out of it with a few more people to continue speaking to than expected... there'd been more than a few rough moments, as well. ]
It's not the worst thing in the world to do - travel with people you already know and a doctor that you know you can trust.
Though, honestly... even if McCoy wasn't particularly trustworthy as a person the technology to be able to heal people that quickly would outweigh it a bit, I think.
[ Thankfully not a problem sh'd actually have to deal with, she thinks. She visually inspects what he's done with her bandage for a moment, then flexes her fingers to make sure it doesn't feel too tight and she'll have some useful range of movement, if needed. ]
Fine, thank you. It'll due until we can get back to camp, at the very least.. probably ought to clear out from here.. monster corpse and all.
